Reviewing Oak Mortgage
Today we review the website of Oak Mortgage Group- a small privately owned mortgage bank in Dallas, Texas.
Marketing Message: From their home page, you see a mid-30s father with his son on his shoulders. You can tell they are trying to communicate with families and brand themselves as a reputable mortgage bank that meets the needs of families. This message is solid, but it is anything but memorable. Additionally, the style has little continuity with the logo on the website.
As we review through their different themes it seems like they are trying to go for a mix of trendy combined with solid, family friendly values- ie- the lines about the heart of a teacher. Their design choices with the background, font selection, logo and imaging, don’t seem to be seamless and it seems like they are choosing from a variety of styles and trying to pull them all together.
We would advise creating a more compelling marketing message and to take advantage of new media like video to communicate in a more emotive way.
Design Elements: As we said before the combo of logo, font choice and images on the site don’t harmonize enough for our tastes. Their logo is really sharp and trendy and they need a site design to go with it. This would include color choice, image style (no stock photos) and font types. There is an appeal to the simplicity of the site as compared with some other mortgage sites we have seen which is a big plus, but we think some attention to details would help the site rise to the next level.
User Experience: Again, the simplicity makes the site easy to use. We would suggest having the site guide the visitor more seamlessly, directing them down the path that fits them best. This site as it is now is more a self-serve buffet than a full serve restaurant where you are guided by an expert waitstaff.
Social Proof of Value: We loved the additional site iloveoakmortgage.com and are sad to have seen its testimonials taken down.
